Never place a raster PNG or JPEG barcode on a commercial packaging dieline—halftone screening during offset or flexo printing blurs bar edges and causes retail laser scanners to fail at checkout. Packaging pre-press requires pure 100% K (Black) vector bar paths with strict GS1 Quiet Zones (minimum 3.63mm left/right clear margins) plus standardized ISO 780 handling symbols (This Way Up, Fragile, Keep Dry, Recycling Loop). Our generator outputs a complete 1:1 vector pre-press label block in .SVG, .PDF, and .DXF ready to drop directly onto any carton dieline.

Mathematical Blank & Tolerance Formulas
Standard EAN-13/UPC-A barcode spans 95 binary modules plus 11X left and 7X right quiet zones (37.29mm x 25.93mm at 100% scale).
Step-by-Step Export & Assembly Guide
- 1 Set total Label Block Width (L), Height (W), and Barcode Bar Height (H, minimum 20mm recommended for retail POS scanners).
- 2 Export the 1:1 .SVG or .PDF vector sheet.
- 3 Open in Adobe Illustrator and change the barcode fill/stroke to 100% Process Black (C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100) set to Overprint Black on a white knockout box.

Frequently Asked Questions — Vector Barcode & ISO Marks
What is the minimum allowed size for a retail barcode on packaging?
Under GS1 specifications, the minimum magnification factor is 80% (29.83mm wide x 20.74mm high including quiet zones). Truncating bar height below 15mm slows omnidirectional supermarket scanners.
Which barcode colors scan properly and which colors fail?
Retail barcode scanners use a red laser or LED (around 660nm). Dark bars must be Black, Dark Navy Blue, Dark Forest Green, or Dark Brown. NEVER print bars in Red, Orange, Metallic Gold, or White, as red light sees red ink as invisible background!
Can I laser-engrave these ISO shipping marks onto wooden crates or corrugated boxes?
Yes! Because the output is pure vector geometry in .DXF and .SVG, you can send the ISO shipping symbols directly to a laser cutter or CNC stencil cutter.
Why is the Quiet Zone box around the barcode so important?
The Quiet Zone (at least 3.6mm of blank white space to the left and right of the guard bars) tells the optical scanner where the barcode starts and ends. Graphic borders touching the outer bars will prevent scanning.
